Project description

Youngster birdwatching

Co’ox Mayab is a project that provides training to young people in Merida, in the Yucatan region of Merida. More local guides in this popular tourist area gives the youth who live here employment opportunities and reduces the number of foreign guides profiting from travel to Yucatan. The cooperative supports responsible tourism practices and shares the benefits with the entire community.

Tourists can visit the area and make contributions directly to the people who live there, as well as have an authentic exchange with the young people of Merida.

Involvement of V Social

VSocial has supported this project since 2017. We have helped finance the certification of 20 young people a year, with a contribution of more than €5,000. By visiting the project and giving presentations, we have also endeavored to inspire the young people and emphasize the importance of sustainable travel.

Merida

Country: Mexico

Along with providing educational and economic opportunities to the young people of Merida, Co’ox Mayab has also been able to put tourism in the hands of the people who live in the region by supplying agencies with local guides. The young people not only have the chance for personal growth, but the benefits extend to their families and help empower the people of Yucatan. The continued success of the project also strengthens the cooperative and the numerous social enterprises involved with it.
