Rio de janeiro- Brasil

Young people promoting their culture and seeking peace in the Favelas

What is the project about?

The project is located in one of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and is considered one of the most important pacification projects in Rio for youth work. This project uses the cultural as a tool for reflection on the favelas. For several years they are offering tours within the favela including a construction of a replica of the favela out of bricks that symbolizes their dream of peace in the favelas. Through the visit of tourists, the young people have been able to implement a cultural school, create souvenirs and organize education of the young people of the favela.

How is VSocial involved in the project?

VSocial Foundation supports the project with knowledge transfer. In addition, the project receives visits from tourists via the VSocial cooperation partners.

What impact does the commitment have?

We have a direct impact of 30 young people from the favela and the whole favela as indirect beneficiaries because violence & crime is considerably reduced.
