YUNGUILLA

What is the project about?

It is not known exactly how many years the community of Yunguilla has existed, but more than 800 years ago it was a place of passage for our ancestors the Yumbos who exchanged products between the coast and the mountains and inhabited areas of the northwestern part of Pichincha.

The Culuncos that we have in the zone are vestiges of this culture and later the inhabitants of the zone have given other uses to these roads. Here you can appreciate some important moments in the history of Yunguilla and the transformation of the activities and especially the mentality of the people.

We are an organized peasant community located just one hour northwest of Quito in the parish of Calacalí, we are in an area of cloud forest and at an altitude of 2,650 meters above sea level.

We are a group of people who strive to move forward economic alternatives, for some years we have been working with the goal of improving the quality of life of the people through the proper management of natural resources, developing activities aimed at sustainable development, including community tourism, which has allowed us to know and share with many people what we are doing in the community.

How is VSocial involved in the project?

The VSocial Foundation supports this project by supporting the management of its tourism project and bringing the international market closer to the project. That is, it takes tourists through the alliances that the foundation has with several international agencies seeking that the organization be a sustainable project through tourism.

In addition, it is the first project certified as community-based tourism of all our projects and now we have there community advisors who work with other projects that want to strengthen taking into account the experience that has Yunguilla for more than 20 years.
