What is the project about?

Baawaja Expeditions is a private company owned by the Native Community of Infierno in Tambopata Puerto Maldonado, which was founded at the end of 2008 with the mission of doing ecotourism, research and activities related to conservation through Tours in Tambopata.

The Native Community of Infierno is currently composed of ethnic populations and different indigenous groups, among which we must name the indigenous population of the ethnic group of Peru Ese Eja, settlers of Andean origin, mestizos and ribereños, which have had different patterns of occupation In the area.

When speaking of the formation and settlement that each of the ethnic groups of the native community have had, the two processes of history must be recognized: first, the creation of the hamlet of Infierno and second, that of the native community and ethnic groups that they make it up.

Geographically, the Community of Infierno is located in the city of Puerto Maldonado, province of Tambopata, southeast of Peru; precisely between the margins of the Tambopata River (in the local native language Ese Eja, known as Baawaja River).

The community has a territorial extension of 9,701 hectares, which have been recognized by the Peruvian state. To enter the Native Community of Infierno, a tour from the city of Puerto Maldonado with a distance of 18 km approximately 45 minutes by bus.

There is also the option of arriving by river, departing from the city of Puerto Maldonado, whose route is by the Tambopata River, with a duration of 1 hour and a half by boat.

To visit the community in its splendor, you can take one of our tours and stay at an Eco Lodge or one of the most comfortable Bungalows or Tourist Hostels that Baawaja Expeditions puts at your disposal. Tambopata awaits you!
